Supplements. What do you REALLY need?

We live in an ad dominated world. Every fitness icon has their own supplementation line, and everyone knows that one person on our friends list that raves about that one supplement they found on Instagram. So what’s the deal with supplements? Do we really need them, and how do we know which ones are worth the money?

The point of a supplement is to fill in the nutritional gaps that are missing from your diet. Let me repeat that for you. Supplements exist to fill in key nutrients that your body needs to survive and be healthy, that are MISSING from the FOOD you eat on a regular basis. The key word here is food. Your body needs real edible, colorful FOOD. Your body is not meant to survive on shakes, pills, processed foods etc… Supplements are just that a supplement, an addition to your diet.

Okay, now that we’ve cleared that up let’s talk about supplements. It is very hard to get all of the nutrients your body needs from food within a given day. For that, supplements can be very beneficial. Below are the list of supplements that I believe to be the most essential for the average human being.

  • A GOOD multi-vitamin
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin D
  • Live Probiotics
  • Whey or Whey Isolate Protein (if you aren’t getting enough)
  • A greens blend  (if you’re not fond of vegetables)

Again, this is just a concise list of supplements that the average human should consider if they’re interested in adding supplements to their diet.
